My latest project

The latest sewing project that I have been working on is a present for a friend for her upcoming baby shower this weekend. Her and I have been friends since high school and she is due with her first daughter, Charli. Another friend and I have been giving a rocking chair a makeover as her present. I have recovered the seat covers in pink gingham fabric and made a coordinating hourglass pillow using this FREE Amy Butler pattern. I machine blanket stitched the butterflies and flowers onto the pillow pieces before sewing it all together. My friend had the fiddly job of stripping the chair and repainting it. I went around yesterday and did the final measurements for the straps on the cushions and I think it is looking very nice indeed!

Here are some pics of the finished product (well almost)

Vannah's Fairy Smock

After almost 24hrs of no internet access I decided to do some sewing to bide the time. I used a pattern found here. I made a few changes including adding button holes to the front straps so that I can feed the cross over straps into these and then securing by tying a knot. Next time I will allow extra strap length as they just weren't quite long enough for me but otherwise lovely pattern and very easy. From cutting out pattern to on Savannah took about 1.5hrs including some dash's for puppy attendance and solving disputes between the girls :) So here are some pics of Vannah modelling her smock. It is fully reversible plain pink cotton on the reverse side and a pocket on each side (attached before sewing together). I think I need to work on my pocket shape as I just quickly drew this by hand.

This is the next item I am adding to my to sew list other than the EB sewing challenge to make another Margaret Sling Bag that I am racking my brain as to the creative elements to.

In honour of full day Kindy

Tomorrow my baby girl starts her full two day Kindy program. I made her a sheet set and a bag to put them in. She is very excited to be having sleeps at Kindy tomorrow. So here are some photos of the drawstring bag. Pattern can be found here.

Kylie's Giveaway

I stubbled across this giveaway through another friend's blog. What a very generous thing to do and a great way to achieve some decluttering. I must put this on my to do list.

I am hoping to make a quilt soon for a great friend on mine's bub that is due VERY soon so best get a bit of mojo going and get organised...

Handmade Help

The fires in Victoria and New South Wales are a devestating event and one that has affected me so much over the past few days. I am so very sorry for all those lives lost and forever changed because of the fires. My family and I will be donating what money we can but there are so many things these families have lost and will never recover.

I became aware of a project that has been set up and will be trying to help out where I can. These two links will give more details of what is being organised to try and help ease the pain for all those affected by the fires. Handmade Help & Meet me at Mike's.
I will be donating these sock monkey's that I made last year and will also try and get some other things made up real soon to donate also.

Margaret Sling Bags

I have been talking of some projects for some birthday presents. The part is tonight YAY a cocktail party so thought it was safe to finally blog some pictures of my finished products including some extra's that I have made using a pattern I have revised. So here are the first two I made:
Alexander Henry Pink Starling with black inner:

Moda's Flutterfly Snails outer with Little Creatures inner:

In my recent fabric binge I bought a heap of fat quarters and was dying to try them out so I downscaled the pattern for the Margaret Sling so that it would fit on a far quarter, it is more a purse sling and this is what I have come up with.

The first photo is a comparison of the two sizes (Pink Starling & Breeze Tile):

Mission Completion!

Last night I finished off the second of my birthday presents that I posted about here. I am very happy with the end results and can't wait to give them to the birthday girls. I will definitely be putting one of these on my to do list for myself also.

So now that I have finished these I am already thinking what is next... Well first on the growing list is to get Chloe's Kindy sheets and a drawstring bag made so when she starts full days she has something to sleep on. I am still not fully decided on what to do for the kindy sheets as yet. Will either be a variation of the link above or I may just try and use some old sheets and blankets to sort of re-sew and make a set from them and thus saving a few $$$$.

Oh and photos of the birthday presents to come next week.

My challenge for the week.

After having a whole month where I have not touched my sewing machine or any craft, I went on a fabric binge and after a quick google search have come up with some challenges. The list of things that I want to try and achieve is growing but for this week I have two items that I would love to try and accomplish. I can't go into great detail as these are presents for people who "know where I live" so to speak :) But they will be celebrating a joint 30th Birthday party this Saturday night so I literally have less than a week to get this done.

Hopefully I can come in here on Saturday with the great news of accomplishment complete and then some photos of the finished product next week.

Wish me luck!
